Updating printer drivers in windows xp

29 Dec

If you share a printer with users running other versions of Windows (Windows95, Windows98, or Windows NT4.0), you can install additional printer drivers on your computer so those users can connect to your printer without being prompted to install the drivers missing from their systems. Printer drivers for Windows NT3.1 and Windows NT3.5 are not included. You must be logged on as an administrator or a member of the Administrators group in order to complete this procedure. You might need to update drivers in Windows when a new piece of hardware you've installed doesn't work automatically or maybe after upgrading to a new version of Windows.Updating drivers is also a great troubleshooting step when the device is having some kind of problem or is generating an error, like a Device Manager error code.

Within this window you can see all of the hardware devices that make up your computer. Clicking the arrow next to each category will expand the tree and reveal additional entries within them.

The hardware developer researches new ways to improve the physical hardware device by making changes to the driver that improve efficiency.

The driver update is distributed at no cost in a package hosted on the hardware device manufacturer's website.

If you have an older printer, you may only have the parallel connector as a connection option.

first step to adding a printer is to make sure the cables are securely connected on both ends (computer and printer).
