Carers allowance backdating payment

In June of each year (usually on the first Thursday of the month), the Department of Social Protection pays the grant automatically to carers getting Carer's Allowance, Carer's Benefit, or Domiciliary Care Allowance from the Department.Only one Carer's Support Grant can be paid for each person getting care.

Carer must: Habitual Residence Condition From all applicants for Carers Allowance must be habitually resident in Ireland.

If you are married, in a civil partnership or cohabiting the first €665 of your combined gross weekly income is disregarded.

PRSI, union dues, superannuation (pension contributions) and travel expenses are also deducted.

You can use the grant to pay for respite care if you wish, but you do not have to do so.
